Tokyo #1
Tokyo Tokyo Tokyo
Last post was in July 2017, on Sapporo
And it's already February 2018 !
Hahahh
Happy New Year !
Still not too late kan
Been pretty occupied and I need a proper mood to write, really
I don't write that frequent
So the fluency's crawling slowly to me like a sloth
Without wasting any more words and time
Here it goes
1/4/2017 (Sat)
From Sapporo to Tokyo, we took the Jetstar
Is it fair if I say flight delay is a norm among Budget airlines? *facepalm*
Luckily it was just an hour delay
Flight duration was about 1hr and 45mins
Reached Narita International Airport Terminal 3 around 3ish pm
Walked about 15 mins to Terminal 2.3 station
No kidding, it is really called as 2.3
Because it serves for both Terminal 2 and 3
We tried our luck asking on portable wifi without booking
And....*drumrolls* of course, we were not lucky !
Only those who have made prior booking can pickup their portable wifi at the airport
So we just bought JR Narita Express ticket to get to Kawasaki
Our Airbnb was in Kawasaki, Kanagawa Prefecture
About 30-45mins away from Tokyo
From Kawasaki, must change train lines at Shinagawa to get to Tokyo
And vice versa
From Airport, it took about an hour and 15 mins
The moment we reached Shinagawa Station
Rasa macam cultural shock kejap
It is sort of like our KL Sentral
But it's even more packed !
Well hallo I took train before at KL Sentral
Takada la noob sangat so my comparison is valid 😛
Shinagawa is already considered as part of Tokyo
Orang dia tak macam dekat Sapporo LANGSUNG
Sapporo was quiet, less hectic
Whereas in Shinagawa / Tokyo, it was so densely populated
Everyone was rushing
And pushing to get into the train
Memang macam sardine lah
Tak tipu
We were pulling our big luggages into the carriages
And they pushed us like "I don't care how big your bag is, I'm not going to wait for the next train"
It's just time consuming for them
We reached Kawasaki almost night time
About 6pm
It was my fault for not getting a local simcard at the airport
So I used my sis's international roaming data
Wanted to minimise our cost, kononlah
Tried to use google maps, but the connection was really poor
Luckily I had printscreen the map and house address
Asked people around, but no one could understand / know the place
Alhamdulillah we managed to approach a Japanese who could help
Walaupun rasa macam cakap ayam dengan itik
You know that feeling when you know the destination
But not sure whether you're heading the right way
You're walking / driving to a place you have never been
You keep walking / driving "mana ni tak sampai2 am I lost" kind of feeling
It was just 10mins walking distance but it felt like an hour
Dalam hati memang tak tinggal Fatihah
God led us right
Finally found our Airbnb !
Masuk2 rumah, there was an unpleasant smell
Washroom kind of stench
In terms of space, rumah dia sangat sempit
Compared to Sapporo
It was like half the space
We didn't mind about the space
Walaupun boleh jadi gaduh juga bila selisih jalan
Because that door was the only way to the kitchen, bathroom and exit door
The stench was the main issue
Their futons and bedspread were dusty
So we used our used tudung as bedspread
Even our used tudung smell better hahah
Habis semua spray dah guna
It looked like a modern apartment unit but it felt so spooky sleeping in that house
I just didn't feel comfortable
You know how it feels like when someone's staring at you?
Haaa the exact same spookiness that I had
Eeeeks~~
Hantu Jepun kot hahaha
We had no choice but to stay for the next 4 nights
Itulah dugaan paling besar during our Japan trip
Tersilap pilih Airbnb
Which really tested my patience
Up to the point where I actually thought of "what is this place? I wanna go home"
But of course, it was not possible
Already spent money and time
One of the things travelling to foreign place has taught me
When we can't change the situation, we have to be flexible and learn to adapt in order to survive
Luckily there's an Aeon right in front of the apartment unit
Terubat jugalah hati yang lara
Dapat seaweed and inari sedap for dinner that night
And so our first day in Tokyo ended...... spookily
2/4/2017 (Sun)
Naka Meguro or Meguro River was our first destination for the day
From Kawasaki, naik turun tangga changed train lines yada yada
All in all took us about an hour
Stopped at Naka Meguro Station
It's known for its night Sakura
Initially I planned of going to Naka Meguro on the night we reached Tokyo
But things didn't go as planned
So we went in the morning
Sakura was not fully bloom
Tu yang rongak2 tu
But still, just looking at the Sakura made my heart jumped with joy
Geram rasa nak picit2
But Sakura is really fragile
The flowers would just fall off on its own when the wind blows
Next stop was Ueno Park
It was suuuuper crowded !
Bila berjalan tu, serious rasa macam tengah tawaf Kaabah
Everyone was walking slowly, so close to one another
I reckon because it was Sunday
And Sakura trees were fully bloomed in Ueno Park that time
Japanese have this common practice
Whereby they do Hanami picnic party or Cherry Blossom Viewing
They would reserve picnic spot in advance by spreading and leaving their picnic mat
So the space available to walk around was quite limited
After Ueno Park, we went to Harajuku
Again, everywhere we went to, it was super crowded
To me Harajuku was a bit like our Bukit Bintang
The place where young generation loves to hang out
Show off quirky dressing
First thing first, we tried to look for something to eat
Found kebab and it was good
Owned by a Turkish
He could even guess we're Malaysians
Just that the shop was by the street
No place to sit at all
Makan berdirilah maknanya
Sungguh rasa tak sopan *facepalm*
Then we headed back to the Harajuku Station
And continued our Sakura journey to Chidorigafuchi
Chidorigafuchi is one of the well-known viewing spots for Sakura at night
Quoted from Japan National Tourism Organisation website
Chidorigafuchi is a moat located in the northwest of the Imperial Palace, and it is said the name comes from the moat's shape, which resembles plovers (chidori in Japanese). The moat is an historic site, and was constructed in the early Edo Period according to the expansion work of the castle, by damming the river
Boleh dikatakan a romantic place to date?
We didn't stay for too long
As the night approached, the place became more and more crowded
When it became crowded, minimal chance of taking pictures leisurely
If you study the map, yes our journey looked funny
It's like going around one big circle then to northern area
Back to place near to Kawasaki
But that was the best route for us
Two points of interest might look near to each other on the map
But do check through the train apps
As I mentioned in previous post
In Tokyo, the train lines are pretty complicated
Kena banyak tukar train lines
My train tips in Japan : Look out for JR lines, it made my life so much easier
And so that was the end of our 2nd day in Tokyo
This post is too long already
I have another 2 days trip of Tokyo story
I'm going to split to another entry ~!
